I am Pine. It is the name I use here to bring together the places, experiences, and questions that have shaped the way I see the built environment. My path began with landscape architecture in San Francisco, followed by graduate school in Providence and professional practice in the Boston area, working across different regions and at different scales. Today, I am based in Abu Dhabi, where my work has expanded into urban design and planning.
Across these different places and scales, my interest has remained consistent: how individual design elements come together to create a legible, cohesive, and complete spatial experience. I am especially drawn to museums, cities, gardens, and other places with a strong sense of identity. I often experience them by walking and observing how indoor and outdoor spaces connect, how natural and artificial light change throughout the day, and how landscape, architecture, wayfinding, branding, and circulation work together.
For me, a place becomes memorable when these elements communicate as one rather than as separate pieces. That experience often determines whether a place becomes somewhere I want to return to or simply somewhere I have visited once.
